One of our most popular activities is the Spice Tour. This is great way to learn a bit more about the colonial and cultural history of the islands, as well as to learn about the spices that are still the main source of income for the islands. The Spice Tour takes you through Lonthoir Village on Banda Besar (the large island next to Banda Neira). You will visit some culturally significant sites, as well as colonial heritage sites including Fort Hollandia, located high on a cliff with spectacular views overlooking the village below, the bay, and the volcano. But perhaps the highlight of the tour is a visit to one of the largest nutmeg plantations on the island. The owner of the plantation will guide you through and show you first-hand the spices that this island has to offer, including nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and kenari nuts.

Spice Tour Add-On: Motorbike Tour of Banda Besar

We recently developed an exciting new add-on to the Spice Tour: a motorbike tour around Banda Besar. This tour takes you all the way along the back side of Banda Besar, through the jungle, along the coast, and through small villages. You return along the road on the inside of the crescent-shaped island. Along the way, soak up the jungle views, relax on the beach, gaze upon the expanse of the Banda Sea, and visit the old Dutch fort Concordia. This tour adds another three to four hours to the trip, making it a full-day activity.

The price list is as follows (fees are in addition to the Spice Tour fees found above):

For two people: an extra 250,000 per person

For three or four people: an extra 225,000 per person

For five or more people: an extra 200,000 per person

*Fees are subject to change depending on the arrangement of motorbikes for the trip. The prices above are for shared motorbikes.*

City Tour

This classic tour takes you around downtown Banda Neira. Our knowledgeable guide will explain about the rich and fascinating history of these islands, including the Chinese, Portuguese and Arab traders, the Dutch and British colonizers, and the impact all this had on the locals. Visit numerous places, including the old Chinese temple, the Banda Cultural Museum, the old Dutch Church, and two Dutch forts (Belgica and Nassau). If you are interested in Indonesian political history, you can also visit the house of exile Hatta Syahrir, the first vice president of Indonesia. This tour lasts about three hours. A great time for this tour is in the afternoon, so you can catch the sunset from Fort Belgica, located atop the highest hill in downtown Neira.

  • snorkeling trips, visiting multiple snorkeling spots and also with time to relax on the beach

  • a combination of the two above

Prices for boat rental and guide fee depend on how far you go and what you plan to do. Please contact us directly for more information. We would be happy to help make your dream trip become a reality!
